Celebrate Today with Exercise

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Today is National Health through Fitness Day, so to celebrate - here are a few tips for getting active!

1. Lift hand weights during tv commercials or run in place.
2. Walk around the mall for 30 minutes.
3. Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator today. Make it a daily practice.
4. Walk your dog today (or a dog at a local shelter).

We Support “Let’s Move!”

Friday, February 12th, 2010

logo_letsmoveOn Tuesday, First Lady Michelle Obama announced her new initiative Let’s Move! to eliminate childhood obesity in one generation. Here at Learning ZoneXpress, we are ready to get moving too!

Let’s Move! is going to take families out of their isolation and give them the nationwide support that they need in a wide range of industries to get their kids on track to live healthier lives, eat right, to get more exercise, and to be ready to face the challenges of the future,” said Mrs. Obama in her video on the Let’s Move! web site.

The four key components of Let’s Move! are:

1. Make Healthier Choices
2. Healthier Food in Schools
3. Access to Healthy, Affordable Food
4. Increase Physical Activity

One of our mail goals at LZE is to create innovative and relevant educational tools that promote nutrition and activity, so it’s very exciting for us to see an initiative like this come from the White House! We’ll be posting more information about Let’s Move on our blog as the initiative unfolds.  You can learn more about Let’s Move! at www.letsmove.gov.

The Olympics was our inspiration for the Great Apps Poster (a fabulous i-Phone style oversized poster). We now have a Great Apps Bulletin Board…and due to the popularity of the two, more Great Apps products are on the way! Stay tuned.

Useful Resource for Teaching Effective Communication

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Layout 1We are pleased to announce that our DVD, Character: Communication Basics, received an excellent review from School Library Journal. Check out the highlights below:

“Effective verbal, non-verbal, and online communication is explained in this exceptionally well-produced program…The video and sound quality is excellent, the graphics are simple yet fun, and the music suits the program’s overall tone. This film can easily be incorporated into a class period and would be superb choice for middle school classes.”

Going Green Just Got Easier

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Layout 1Earlier this month we received two great reviews on our DVD, Easy Being Green. Here are a few snippets:

“…hip, stylishly dressed teenagers explain environmental issues and ways to save energy and live a greener lifestyle. Hands-on demonstrations show the students checking air pressure in car tires, installing energy efficient light bulbs, turning off computers and other electronics when not in use, and recycling…The organization and length of this program make it very classroom friendly for use in science, consumer economics, and current issues classes.” –School Library Journal, Dec. 2009

airpressure“Easy Being Green is a versatile DVD that is appropriate for a wide range of viewers and will be a welcome addition to any collection needing environmental conservation resources. Recommended.” –Library Media Connection, Nov. /Dec. 2009
