Ideas to celebrate and promote FCCLA week

FCCLA Week Profile PictureToday is the first day of FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) week. Here’s an outline of the various activites and themes from the FCCLA site. As you’ll see some great ideas to celebrate and promote FCCLA week!

Monday: Media Blitz  (Together We Are…Making Headlines)

Resources: Template op-ed for chapters to send to local media; talking points for media interviews (highlighting 70th anniversary, famous alums?, milestones and accomplishments); Template script for chapters to record own PSA); Media pitch tips for landing an interview/media presence at chapter event.

Chapter Activities: “In-school” media announcements (TV, morning announcements); community billboards; school marquees.

Tuesday: Partner Advocacy – Share Our Strength (Together We Are…At the Table)

Resources: Customized video to share via social media from SOS; Facts about FCCLA’s partnership with Share Our Strength, as well as the importance of healthy meals, nutrition and eating together as a family (with tie-in to @the Table program).

Chapter Activities: “@the Table Challenge” where chapter members and all of the classmates they can encourage, budget and prepare a meal for their family, then as a family contribute the same amount of money they spent on that meal to SOS to enable others to have a healthy meal.

Wednesday: Red Out for FCCLA (Together We Are…United)

Resources: Official FCCLA “Together We Are…United” social media cover and sample postings, tweets to highlight the number and strength of FCCLA members.

Chapter Activities: Wear Red!; showcase friendships made through FCCLA with posters/photos around school as well as in social media; submit photos of as many people wearing red in group shots to demonstrate how we are “united”.

Thursday:  The Ultimate “Throw Back Thursday” (Together We Are…Making History)

Resources: Capitalizing on both “The Ultimate Leadership Experience” which FCCLA provides and the organization’s 70th anniversary, FCCLA national office will put out a social media-wide appeal – using #TUTBT – encouraging all members past and present to post photos of themselves and fellow chapter members from as far back in FCCLA’s 70 year history as possible. (Extra points for photos only captured in black&white!) Possibly a “where are they now?” social media appeal for FCCLA alum who have gone on to fame and fortune…?

Chapter Activities: Chapters are encouraged to inundate social media with photos of members and chapter photos from as many years back as possible, all with the hashtag, “ #TUTBT”.

Friday: Member Recognition (Together We Are…FCCLA)

Resources: Video from staff to thank students and advisers – share on social media and in weekly e-newsletters (Fast Facts, State Adviser Update); sample thank-you letter from adviser/chapter officer to parents/chapter members; Connect with 3Rs of Membership.

Chapter Activities: Create a bulletin board to showcase members; decorate members’ lockers; send thank you notes from advisers  and chapter officers to members; recognize chapter members on social media; set up an “FCCLA members only” photo booth during lunch with props to commemorate FCCLA Week; set up a table at lunch for FCCLA members to come and claim a special gift.
