Keeping FACS Alive: FACS for Universal Skills in New Hampshire

promoting-facs-guideThis summer Learning ZoneXpress has been asking teachers how they are keeping FACS Alive in their classrooms and schools. We were thrilled with the response and are happy to share the stories. We would love to hear from you! Help us spread the awareness of FCS in the classroom today and share your story with us. Long live “Home Ec”!

Today’s story…

Awareness of themselves and those around them was the basis of my classroom structure whether it was a class to learn about cooking, sewing or career skills. At my high school we have a variety of students from 13 years to 21 years old, academically bright to academically challenged, wealthy to homeless, very involved to unmotivated, US born to immigrant. The skills taught in a Family & Consumer Science classroom are universal; necessary for everyone. It is a learning environment that yields a blending of all students no matter who they are or from what country they come from.
