Keeping FACS Alive: FACS in Middle School in Michigan

promoting-facs-guideThis summer Learning ZoneXpress has been asking teachers how they are keeping FACS Alive in their classrooms and schools. We were thrilled with the response and are happy to share the stories. We would love to hear from you! Help us spread the awareness of FCS in the classroom today and share your story with us. Long live “Home Ec”!

Today’s story…

I am a middle school FCS teacher. I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.

  • My sixth graders begin by sewing a drawstring bag and then we begin a cooking unit. We have a 60 minute class period every day and we are on Trimesters, so I have students for 12 weeks.
  • My 7th graders cover Consumer Economics (we do a living on your own simulation) and a cooking unit as well.
  • My 8th graders cover Relationships, Child Development and Cooking as well.

My program is very successful and always appreciate new ideas. Thank you, Tina Delbridge
