Keeping FACS Alive: FCS for career development and safer families in Wisconsin

promoting-facs-guideThis summer Learning ZoneXpress has been asking teachers how they are keeping FACS Alive in their classrooms and schools. We were thrilled with the response and are happy to share the stories. We would love to hear from you! Help us spread the awareness of FCS in the classroom today and share your story with us. Long live “Home Ec”!

Today’s story…

I have taught Family and Consumer Education/Occupational Home Economics-Food Service Management for 30 years. In the position that I have now I started the Pro-start program so students can learn the benefits of restaurant management as well as cooking techniques. Since FCS teachers can teach Health Occupations classes I also started the CNA program at our school in Orfordville, WI.

Parkview High School has full running FCS classes. I placed 10 students in the Child Health and Safety Day Care program where they have their licenses for Assistant Child Care Teachers. I would love to see Parenting Education as a requirement for high school graduation which I firmly believe would save some children from abuse/neglect for our future generations. We have a sustainable product to offer students as they go through their secondary educational programs and we (FCS) advocates need to stand up and show what we are doing. I am busy in the community so people know what is happening in FCS.
