Keeping FACS Alive: Life Skills in Alternative Classes in Pennsylvania

This summer Learning ZoneXpress has been asking teachers how they are keeping FACS Alive in theipromoting-facs-guider classrooms and schools. We were thrilled with the response and are happy to share the stories. We would love to hear from you! Help us spread the awareness of FCS in the classroom today and share your story with us. Long live “Home Ec”!

Today’s story…

I have been teaching middle school students for 25 yrs. I teach cooking/nutrition, hand and machine sewing, child development/care, resource management, and financial management. This coming year, I will also be teaching an FCS-Life Skills class and FCS to Alternate Ed students (who cannot be with the other students). I have had parents and students return with remarks such as, "thank you for teaching my son to sew on buttons - he needed that in college" or "I had to sew badges onto my uniform and could because of your class."
