Keeping FACS Alive: Networking Lessons Help in Life in Kentucky

promoting-facs-guideThis summer Learning ZoneXpress has been asking teachers how they are keeping FACS Alive in their classrooms and schools. We were thrilled with the response and are happy to share the stories. We would love to hear from you! Help us spread the awareness of FCS in the classroom today and share your story with us. Long live “Home Ec”!

Today’s story…

FCS is a vital part of today's education. FCS teaches students the skills they need to survive in the "every day" world. Through Family and Consumer Sciences, students learn everything from budgeting to smart shopping, laundry care to table setting. Through these programs, student are enabled with necessary skills that are vital to them feeling and being successful in life after high school. These programs also incorporate leadership opportunities in which students are able to give back to their community and make connections with community members. Students learn the importance of networking and are better prepared for their future as they make needed acquaintances. As a student told me, "I didn't know how much FCCLA meant to me until I was no longer in it." It gives so many students a sense of purpose and somewhere where they feel they truly belong. It helps them cultivate friendship and find their true potential as future leaders of society.
