Keeping FACS Alive: Social Skills to Combat Social Media in New York

promoting-facs-guideThis summer Learning ZoneXpress has been asking teachers how they are keeping FACS Alive in their classrooms and schools. We were thrilled with the response and are happy to share the stories. We would love to hear from you! Help us spread the awareness of FCS in the classroom today and share your story with us. Long live “Home Ec”!

Today’s story…

Teaching FACS affords a unique experience that most other academic areas cannot reach. Students love to enter the room. Students are engaged. Students are free to explore new experiences. Teaching good social skills has become an overall theme in every lesson. Social media has taken over our youth. The byproduct is the inability to exercise proper social skills. Each of my FACS. classes focus on social skills, character building and life skills with a focus on setting career goals. I could go on and on about the real life benefit of F.C. As a teacher it allows me to really get to know the students and make a difference in a life path.
