Minnesota SNAP recipients get bonus for fruit and veg

Wanda Watermelon Garden Hero from Learning ZoneXpressWe’re excited to hear about some of the public health and nutrition movements in our home state of Minnesota.

Commissioner Lucinda Jesson, MN Grocer’s Jamie Pfuhl, Jim Almsted and Ross Stafford of U of M Extension recently announced SNAP+.  The Minnesota Department of Human Service, in partnership with the Minnesota Grocers Association and Minnesota Grown, is launching SNAP+, a pilot project to help recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits purchase more fresh produce and eat healthier.  From June 15 through Sept. 30, each time a SNAP recipient spends $5 or more on fresh fruits and vegetables with their Electronic Benefit Transfer card at one of three Minnesota grocery stores, they will receive a $5 coupon toward their next produce purchase.

It’s a great way to promote healthy eating!
