At Learning ZoneXpress, we LOVE home ec teachers and classess uuhh…we mean FACS teachers and classes. We create many of our products with the goal of helping teachers bring great culinary and nutrition information directly to the kids. But FACS is so much more now; financial management, planning for the future, child development etc… How has home ec class morphed into FACS class? And is it still needed?
Here’s one perspective, read this article from Jennifer LaRue Huget at The Washington Post. She shows some great insight on why we need to keep these classes alive and running! You can bet, we’ll be supporting this effort for years to come at Learning ZoneXpress!
Well maybe we’re GLEEKS, but you can’t blame us! Hollywood came knocking and ordered our nutrition posters for their Fox Broadcasting GLEE set. (Afterall, every school should have them!) And now you can see them on Episode 16 titled ”Home” which aired April 27th.

In 2009, Learning ZoneXpress and MSNA – MN School Nutrition Association partnered with several other vendors to bring about the first-ever EXTREME CAFETERIA MAKEOVER! The winner of this $70,000.00 makeover was Glenville-Emmons High School. Read “How It All Began“.
Recently, at the national SNA’s (School Nutrition Assoc.) annual conference, our Extreme Cafeteria Makeover was highlighted in their “tournament of champions”.
Accordingly, SNA’s April School Nutrition Magazine mentions: “The Minnesota School Nutrition Association coordinated the first ‘Extreme Cafeteria Makeover,’ bringing together dozens of local and national vendor partners donating equipment, signage, expertise, uniforms and more to overhaul a small district’s cafeteria.”
Extreme Cafeteria Makeover was designed as “A National showcase for cutting edge school nutrition solutions feeding bodies and minds…fueling our future.”

We are pleased to announce that seven Learning ZoneXpress products were selected for inclusion into the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program Resource Database.
These nutrition and health education products “were found to be in alignment with one or more of the Healthy Schools Program Framework Criteria and consistent with the American Heart Association standards for scientific validity and accuracy,” according to a letter from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
