With the FACS professional subject and interest area being so broad, we sure have a great deal of talents in our community!
Personally I've always loved being creative with fabrics in housing and in clothing. That creativity just let me hone a natural talent in floral arranging. I worked at the Minnesota gift market for several years designing floral Christmas trees and sold floral arrangements at craft and art shows for many years. Several years ago my cousin asked me to do her "fresh flower" arranging for her wedding. I did and it was fun! I did subsequent weddings for friends of my son’s. It wasn’t a big deal for me because I loved doing it and my “clients” were always delighted with my work.
My son once questioned my involvement in a wedding. I said, "Luke, do you like to hike?" He said, "Yes." I said, "Well, my hobby is floral arranging, and I think it's fun!" He accepted that and we went on with the planning and arranging. At the wedding, the manager of the venue asked for my card. I said "No, this is a hobby." The photographer also sought me out to tell me how nice the floral arrangements were. Now this is all quite lovely and great for my ego, but that is not the issue. The issue is this question, "Jane are your going to do my flowers when I get married?"
Oh boy, I have started something.
What fun hobbies do you have that related to your profession?
