Here is a wonderful resource for developing your PowerPoints or for using the smart board in your Foods & Nutrition classes. At MayoClinic.com, you will find excellent graphics, slideshows and demonstrations on many foods and nutrition topics. This website has a particularly useful section titled "Nutrition Basics." If you click on the link I've provided and scroll down the page, you will find hundreds of topics related to foods and nutrition appropriate for your classroom. Once you have skimmed the list, check out the great multimedia resources by clicking on the “multimedia” tab near the top of the page.
On the multimedia page, you will find images, interactive graphics, recipe demonstrations and slide shows that you can present to your class directly from the website. You can also embed or transfer them to your presentations if you choose.
Below, you'll find a sampling of multimedia resources you can find on the website.
Functions of Water in the Body
Cuts of Beef
The Food Label
Anatomy of a Whole Grain
Reading Food Labels
Pyramid or Plate
Spices (highlights 6 major spices)
Beans & Legumes
High Fiber Diets
You may also be interested in some of the recipes for your foods classes. Some of them have short how-to videos of the recipe. The demonstrations make great refreshers for your students before doing the lab. However, the demonstrations do not go into detail of how to prepare each of the ingredients.
If you use one of the resources from this website that you think would be helpful to other FACS teachers, please share your ideas by responding to this blog.
