I just had the pleasure of looking through a brand new curriculum resource that those of you using iPads or iPods in your classroom will really like. It is called 50 App Activities for Life Skills and is written by Ashley Davis, an enthusiastic and tech savvy FACS Teacher from Minnesota. Ms. Davis highlights that electronic devices are useful in the classroom for calculating and recording data, accessing information and reference materials, and for creating something that meets a learning goal.
In the 50 Apps Activities for Life Skills resource, there is a wide variety of Apps from which to choose for implementation in your classes. This wonderful resource provides an overview of the App along with the objective(s) and directions for accessing the App. It also ties each App to the applicable AAFCS national standard. A well designed student worksheet is provided with each App. Here is a taste of some of the Apps you may enjoy for your classes:
- Meal Planning
- Type 1 and 2 Diabetes
- Grocery List
- Cake Decorating
- Food Safety & Sanitation
- Financial Literacy
When you order and review this resource I would recommend flagging each page with a post-it note noting the class in which to implement the App to make it easy for you to access the learning activity. 50 App Activities for Life Skills (100126) is available from Learning Zone Express for $34.95. Having this resource will truly save you so much time in trying to find Apps and then designing learning activities to go with the App for your classes. Check this resource out on-line today!
