We recently asked our readers, "How are you celebrating National School Breakfast Week?" Here's the great response from Drew Central School District:
We participated in National Breakfast Week by hosting an event called Breakfast Buddies. Students were allowed to invite their family members to come and eat breakfast with them. We also participated in the “Orange Squeeze Challenge” where we are asked to serve our students oranges during Breakfast Week. Our mascot is the Pirate so our theme for the event was “Eat Like a Pirate! Orange you glad you had breakfast?” We served fresh oranges, orange juice, orange muffins and orange infused raisins.
Our first graders did a sensory project where they made posters that described what an orange smelled like, tasted like, looked like, etc. Our third graders researched the benefits of eating breakfast and oranges. They wrote their facts down on paper oranges and attached them to an orange tree.
What a fun way to encourage healthy habits and education children on the benefits of breakfast. Way to go Drew Central!
