In honor of School Nutrition Employee Week, we offered School Nutrition Professionals the opportunity to enter for a chance to win Choose MyPlate aprons for their entire staff. We asked for short stories of themselves or someone on their team doing great work in their cafeteria. Our winning story was from Kary Towne, School Nurse at F. H. Tuttle Middle School in Vermont.
Kary has graciously sent us a photo of the cafeteria staff at F. H. Tuttle Middle School wearing their brand new Choose MyPlate aprons....
This is what Kary had to say about the school nutrition staff at her school district:
"As the school nurse, I had a student with me who was not feeling well and he really could not go into the cafeteria to get food. I told him I would get him something and bring it back for him. I headed down to the cafeteria. When I got to the hot lunch line and the nutritional staff, I told them I was needed a lunch for A.B. and was deciding what to choose for him. We have over 500 students in our school. They staff immediately said--his favorite is a turkey sandwich on wheat, little bit of mayo and cheese. He also likes tomatoes on his sandwich with a little lettuce. They went on to tell me his favorite drink and side dishes. They actually began a discussion among them -- "what about carrots, he likes carrots" I could not believe they were that familiar with our students and they knew what they liked. It brought a smile to A.B.'s face when I told him about this and how they wanted to make sure he got his favorites when he wasn't feeling well. Our staff takes care of our kids!!"
They sure look good in those aprons! Congratulations again to the cafeteria staff at F. H. Tuttle Middle School in Vermont!
