In recent press, there has been a lot of talk about the need for teaching our youth cooking and survival skills once again. As a former FCS educator and founder of Learning ZoneXpress, my team and I stand behind the importance of teaching our youth Family and Consumer Sciences skills. That’s why we continue to create new products every year to help meet the needs of our FCS educators.
We know that Family and Consumer Sciences, also referred to as “Home Ec”, still survives and even thrives in schools today. It has not gone away completely. Many dedicated FCS teachers and extension agents continue to teach young men and women the tools they need to survive on their own.
Learning ZoneXpress would love to hear how teaching FCS is still relevant in your school or organization today and what skills you are teaching your students. We want to let people know that these programs still exist and continue to grow stronger as we recognize the importance of teaching these skills. Teaching our youth how to survive nutritionally, economically and financially are some of the most important skills they will ever learn in school.
We would love to hear from you! Help us spread the awareness of FCS in the classroom today and share your story with us. Long live “Home Ec”!
We will start sharing stories soon - we've already received 50!
