FCS Class Gets Technical

Here is a peek at one of the top AAFCS teacher’s recent projects. Sharon Baillie, from Burgettstown Middle/High School is Pennsylvania’s 2010 teacher of the year.  Her students completed a nutrition project with technology that many of us can use in our classroom.

As a new technology learning experience, the students were taught how to create QR (Quick Response) codes to web sites accessed by a web cam, smart phone, or IPod touch. The students created advertising flyers about their projects directing the community to their link.  Then they created scripts, acted them out and placed them on the site with the QR codes.

Sharon reports that the students were so excited about their work and the use of the new program that they were sharing them with everyone.  What a unique way to get the school, community and student body interested in nutrition and healthy eating!  HERE is a link to their PSA announcements.

After browsing a couple of those informational PSA’s on produce, I’m off to the market for fresh treats.
