Attention garden lovers! I just came across an American public television show that may of be interest to those of you that want or already have a vegetable garden for your class—or for those of you who love to garden in general. The show is called Growing a Greener World, and the website is www.growingagreenerworld.com.
“Edible Schoolyard”, Episode 108, is available to be viewed on line. The show is very interesting and informative. It would be a great resource for you to show your students and coworkers as you prepare to have an edible schoolyard. There are many other episodes you may find helpful as well, including one on composting.
The website also has a program called “In the Kitchen with Nathan Lyons” that provides cooking suggestions for fresh garden ingredients. For those who want to can and preserve their garden bounty, check out “Preserving the Harvest with Theresa Loe.” Both programs would be perfect for classroom viewing. Theresa has a basic video on water bath canning to help people get started with their home canning.
You can sign up for Growing a Greener World’s free e-mail newsletter to regularly receive all kinds of gardening tips and insights. This website is well designed and is easy to navigate. Enjoy!
