Keeping FACS Alive: Theme Meals Prepared by Students in North Carolina

Today’s story…

FCS education is alive and well in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. I moved to NC to take a job as the Foods 1 teacher at Cox Mill High School in 2012. I have 30+ years of teaching all aspects of FCS before coming to NC. Foods 1 teaches the basics of cooking. My classes are full every semester. Our culminating project is a staff buffet for over 100 people. Each buffet has a theme such as Global Smorgasbord, Farm to Table, Staff Appreciation Southern Buffet. The students make all of the food, decorate the room, serve, bus tables, wash dishes constantly as we provide 4 different seatings. I am so proud of what they have accomplished each semester. We also teach Foods 2 - Technology and Family Living. Over the years I have bought many products from Learning ZoneXpress in all areas of FCS. The one item I am still looking for is an updated video on Food borne pathogens. If you find one please let me know.
