To perk up the winter curriculum blues, check out Family Consumer Sciences, managed by a former FACS teacher, Melanie Sandoval. The website is designed for classroom teachers to share and collect curriculum ideas for your FACS classroom. The website is about five years old so the ideas are fresh and helpful. The website is very easy to navigate and would be easy to peruse while waiting for an appointment or watching television; it’s also organized enough to be useful during a purposeful moment of inspiration/desperation.
The most recent curriculum activity posted is called “Show Me the TV Family: A Paper Plate Project.” This wonderful hands-on review activity helps students to demonstrate their knowledge of family structures, function and lifecycle stages. The site also features a Fruit Lab and Goals Bullet Board. The website is organized by the curriculum areas and also includes classroom management ideas.
